Yao Zhang

Assistant Professor, Department of Statistics and Data Science, National University of Singapore

I am looking for PhD students to join my group and work on projects in predictive inference, causal inference, and areas of machine learning that benefit from a statistical perspective. I am drawn to methods that are intuitive enough to be useful in practice, yet principled enough for theory to explain when and why they work. I also enjoy exploring basic sciences and their connections to statistics and machine learning. If you are interested in working with me or exploring collaborations, feel free to reach out by email.

Previously, I was a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Statistics at Stanford University, advised by Prof. Emmanuel Candès. I received my Ph.D. in Mathematics at the University of Cambridge, supervised by Prof. Mihaela van der Schaar. I also collaborated with Prof. Qingyuan Zhao on causal inference. Prior to my Ph.D., I worked with Dr. Alpha Lee on battery diagnosis and drug discovery.
